حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ، ثنا الزُّهْرِيُّ، عَنْ سِنَانِ بْنِ أَبِي سِنَانٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيِّ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَّا خَرَجَ إِلَى حُنَيْنٍ مَرَّ بِشَجَرَةٍ يُقَالُ لَهَا ذَاتُ أَنْوَاطٍ، يُعَلِّقُ الْمُشْرِكُونَ عَلَيْهَا أَسْلِحَتَهُمْ، فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، اجْعَلْ لَنَا ذَاتَ أَنْوَاطٍ كَمَا لَهُمْ ذَاتُ أَنْوَاطٍ. فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " اللهُ أَكْبَرُ، هَذَا كَمَا قَالَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ لِمُوسَى: {اجْعَلْ لَنَا إِلَهًا كَمَا لَهُمْ آلِهَةٌ} [الأعراف: ١٣٨] ، لَتَرْكَبُنَّ سَنَنَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Waqid al-Laythi (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out towards Hunayn, he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a tree called Dhat Anwat, on which the polytheists used to hang their weapons. The Companions said: O Messenger of Allah, make a Dhat Anwat for us just as they have a Dhat Anwat. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allahu Akbar! This is just as the Children of Israel said to Musa (peace be upon him): 'Make for us a god just as they have gods' [Surah al-A'raf: 138]. You will surely follow the ways of those who came before you."
