حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ التَّمَّارُ الْبَصْرِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ حُصَيْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي عَائِشَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ رَأْسِ الْجَالُوتِ، قَالَ: «كُنَّا نَسْمَعُ أَنَّهُ يُقْتَلُ بِكَرْبَلَاءَ ابْنُ نَبِيٍّ، فَكُنْتُ إِذَا دَخَلْتُهَا رَكَّضْتُ فَرَسِي حَتَّى أَجُوزَ عَنْهَا، فَلَمَّا قُتِلَ الْحُسَيْنُ جَعَلْتُ أَسِيرُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ عَلَى هَيْأَتِي»
Ra's al-Jalut said: We used to hear that the son of a prophet would be killed at Karbala. So whenever I passed through it, I would spur my horse and hurry on until I had gone beyond that place. Then, when Husayn was martyred, I began passing through it at my normal pace after that.
