حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الْحَفْرِيُّ، عَنْ فِطْرِ بْنِ خَلِيفَةَ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ، عَنْ أَبِي إِدْرِيسَ، عَنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ بْنِ نَجَبَةَ الْفَزَارِيِّ، قَالَ: كُنَّا جُلُوسًا عِنْدَ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، فَذَكَرُوا أَهْلَ بَيْتِهِ، فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ: «أَمَّا الْحَسَنُ فَلَا يُغْنِي عَنْكُمْ فِي الْحَرْبِ حِبَالَةَ عُصْفُورٍ، وَأَمَّا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ فَصَاحِبُ ظِلٍّ وَخُوَانٍ، وَأَمَّا حُسَيْنٌ فَإِنَّهُ مِنْكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ مِنْهُ»
Al-Musayyab bin Najabah al-Fazari said: We were sitting with Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) when the people mentioned his household, so Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "As for Hasan, he would be of no use to you in war, not even as much as a sparrow's snare; as for Abdullah bin Ja'far, he is a man of ease and the dining spread; and as for Husayn, he is from you and you are from him."
