حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْوَاقِفِيُّ، ثنا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ حُدَيْجٍ، قَالَ: أَرْسَلَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ إِلَى الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمْ أَخْطُبُ عَلَى يَزِيدَ بِنْتًا لَهُ أَوْ أُخْتًا لَهُ، فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَذَكَرْتُ لَهُ يَزِيدَ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّا قَوْمٌ لَا تُزَوَّجُ نِسَاؤُنَا حَتَّى نَسْتَأْمِرَهُنَّ، فَائْتِهَا. فَأَتَيْتُهَا فَذَكَرْتُ لَهَا يَزِيدَ، فَقَالَتْ: وَاللهِ لَا يَكُونُ ذَاكَ حَتَّى يَسِيرَ فِينَا صَاحِبُكَ كَمَا سَارَ فِرْعَوْنُ فِي بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ، يَذْبَحُ أَبْنَاءَهُمْ، وَيَسْتَحْيِي نِسَاءَهُمْ. فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى الْحَسَنِ، فَقُلْتُ: أَرْسَلْتَنِي إِلَى فِلْقَةٍ مِنَ الْفَلَقِ تُسَمِّي أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِينَ فِرْعَوْنَ. فَقَالَ: يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ إِيَّاكَ وبُغْضَنَا، فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «لَا يُبْغِضُنَا وَلَا يَحْسُدُنَا أَحَدٌ إِلَّا زِيدَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِسِياطٍ مِنْ نَارٍ»
Mu'awiyah bin Hudayj said: Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) sent me to Sayyiduna al-Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) to propose, on behalf of Yazid, for a daughter of his or a sister of his. I came to him and mentioned Yazid to him, and he said: We are a people whose women are not married off without their being consulted, so go to her. I went to her and mentioned Yazid to her, and she said: By Allah, that will not happen until your master treats us the way Pharaoh treated the Children of Israel, slaughtering their sons and keeping their women alive. I returned to Sayyiduna al-Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: You sent me to a calamity who calls the Commander of the Believers Pharaoh. Sayyiduna al-Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Mu'awiyah! Beware of hating us, for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'No one hates us or envies us except that on the Day of Resurrection he will be given an increase of whips of fire.'"
