Abu Kabir (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I was sitting with Sayyiduna al-Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) when a man came to him and said: In the court of Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), a man called Mu'awiyah bin Hudayj has reviled Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in a vile manner. Do you know him? He said: Yes. He said: When you see him, bring him to me. The narrator said: He saw him near the house of Amr bin Hurayth and pointed him out to him. Sayyiduna al-Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Are you Mu'awiyah bin Hudayj? He remained silent and did not answer him three times. Then Sayyiduna al-Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Are you the one who reviles Ali in the presence of the son of the liver-eater? Listen: if you come to him at the Pond - and I do not think you will reach it - you will find him with his sleeves rolled up and his forearms bared, driving the disbelievers and the hypocrites away from the Pond of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), just as a stray camel is driven away from its owner. This is the word of the truthful and confirmed one, Abu al-Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him)."
