Azzah bint Iyad bin Abi Qirsafah (may Allah have mercy on her) narrates: I heard my grandfather Abu Qirsafah (may Allah be pleased with him), the Companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), saying: The beginning of my Islam was that I was an orphan living between my mother and my maternal aunt, and I inclined more towards my aunt. I used to graze a few sheep of mine, and my aunt would often say to me: My son! Do not pass by this man, meaning the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), otherwise he will lead you astray and misguide you. So I would go out and reach the pasture, leave my sheep, then come to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and keep sitting with him (peace and blessings be upon him), listening to him (peace and blessings be upon him). Then in the evening I would return with my sheep lean and with dry udders. My aunt said to me: Why are your sheep's udders dry? I said: I do not know. Then on the second day I went to him again, and he did just as he had done on the first day, except that I heard him saying: "O people! Emigrate and hold firmly to Islam, for emigration will not cease as long as jihad continues." Then I returned with my sheep just as I had returned on the first day. Then on the third day I went to him again and remained with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), listening to him (peace and blessings be upon him), until I accepted Islam, pledged allegiance to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and shook hands with him with my own hand, and I complained to him (peace and blessings be upon him) about my aunt and about my sheep. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Bring the sheep to me." So I brought them, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed his hand over their backs and udders and prayed for blessing in them, and they became full of fat and milk. When I came to my aunt with them, she said: My son! Keep grazing them like this. I said: Aunt! I grazed them only where I graze them every day, but let me tell you my story. So I told her the whole story, and about my going to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I also told her about his (peace and blessings be upon him) conduct and his (peace and blessings be upon him) words. At that my mother and my aunt said to me: Take us to him as well. So I, my mother and my aunt went, and they accepted Islam and pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but they did not shake hands. This is the account of Abu Qirsafah's acceptance of Islam and his emigration to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Ziyad said: "Abu Qirsafah used to live in the land of Tihamah."
