حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عِقَالٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ النُّفَيْلِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ مُبَشِّرٍ، قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بَخَيْرِ النَّاسِ رَجُلًا؟» قَالُوا: بَلَى، فَأَشَارَ بِيَدِهِ نَحْوَ الْمَشْرِقِ، فَقَالَ: «رَجُلٌ آخِذٌ بِعَنَانِ فَرَسِهِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ يَنْتَظِرُ أَنْ يُغِيرَ أَوْ يُغَارَ عَلَيْهِ، أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ النَّاسِ بَعْدَهُ رَجُلًا؟» قَالُوا: بَلَى فَأَشَارَ بِيَدِهِ نَحْوَ الْحِجَازِ، فَقَالَ: «رَجٌلٌ فِي غَنَمِهِ يُقِيمُ الصَّلَاةَ وَيُؤْتِي الزَّكَاةَ، يَعْلَمُ مَا حَقُّ اللهِ فِي مَالِهِ، قَدِ اعْتَزَلَ النَّاسَ»
It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Mubashshir (may Allah be pleased with her); she said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you about the best of people as a man?" The Companions said: "Certainly." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed with his hand towards the east and said: "A man who holds the reins of his horse in the path of Allah, waiting to launch a raid or to be raided. Shall I not tell you about the best of people as a man after him?" The Companions said: "Certainly." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed with his hand towards the Hijaz and said: "A man who, living among his sheep, establishes the prayer and gives the zakah, knows what the right of Allah in his wealth is, and keeps himself apart from people."
