حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا ابْنُ الْأَصْبَهَانِيٍِّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ فُضَيْلٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: لَمَا حَضَرَتْ كَعْبًا الْوَفَاةُ دَخَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ أُمُّ بِشْرٍ بْنُتُ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ مَعْرُورٍ، فَقَالَتْ: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، إِنْ لَقِيتَ ابْنِي فَأَقْرئْهُ مِنَّي السَّلَامَ، قَالَ: يَغْفِرُ اللهُ لَكِ يَا أُمَّ بِشْرٍ، نُحْنُ أَسْفَلُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَتْ: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، أَمَا سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «إِنَّ أَرْوَاحَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي أَجْوَافِ طَيْرٍ خُضْرٍ تَعَلَّقُ بِشَجَرِ الْجَنَّةِ» ؟ قَالَ: بَلَى، قَالَتْ: فَهُوَ ذَاكَ
Abd al-Rahman bin Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) said: When the time of Ka'b's (may Allah be pleased with him) death drew near, Umm Bishr bint al-Bara' bin Ma'rur (may Allah be pleased with her) came to him and said: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman! If you meet my son, convey my greetings of peace (salam) to him." He said: "May Allah forgive you, O Umm Bishr! We are far below that station." She said: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman! Did you not hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: 'The souls of the believers are in the bellies of green birds that hang from the trees of Paradise'?" He said: "Certainly." She said: "Then that is the matter."
