حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْقَاضِي، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا عَارِمٌ أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ، قَالَا: ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ بِنْتِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ، قَالَتْ: " كُنَّا نُنْهَى أَنْ نُحِدَّ عَلَى مَيِّتٍ فَوْقَ ثَلَاثٍ، لَا نَتَطَيَّبُ، وَلَا نَكْتَحِلُ، وَلَا نَلْبَسُ ثَوْبًا مَصْبُوغًا إِلَّا ثَوْبَ عَصْبٍ، قَالَتْ: وَقَدْ رَخَّصَ لَهُنَّ حِينَ يَغْتَسِلْنَ فِي الطُّهْرِ فِي الْقُسْطِ وَالْأَظْفَارِ "
Sayyidah Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: We used to be forbidden from mourning for anyone who had died for more than three days, and (were told) that we should not apply perfume, should not apply kohl, and should not wear dyed clothes except a garment of 'asb (striped cloth). She said: However, the women were permitted qust and azfar (fragrant herbs) when bathing at the time of purification.
