Al-Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated to me; she said: One day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out and prayed the midday prayer, then sat down, and the people became alarmed. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O people! I have not sat in this place to frighten you; rather, Tamim al-Dari came to me and gave me news which, out of joy and delight, kept me from my midday rest, so I wished to give you the glad tidings of your Prophet's joy. He told me that a group of his cousins sailed on the sea, and a storm struck them and forced them to take refuge on an island. They sat in the ship's small boat until they landed on the island, and there they came across a very hairy thing; they could not tell whether it was a man or a woman. They greeted it with salam and it returned their greeting. They said: Will you not tell us (anything)? It said: I will neither give you news nor ask you for news; but this monastery which you have seen, in it there is someone who is intensely eager to hear your news and to give you news. We said: Then what are you? It said: I am al-Jassasah. So they went on until they reached the monastery, and there was a man tightly bound in iron, showing grief and complaining much. They greeted him with salam and he returned their greeting, and said: Who are you? We said: Of the Arabs. He said: What is the state of the Arabs; has their Prophet come out? They said: Yes. He said: Then what did they do? We said: Good; they believed in him, followed him and affirmed him. He said: That is better for them. They said: And he had enemies, and Allah made him prevail over them. He said: So the Arabs' god is one, their word is one, and their religion is one? They said: Yes. He said: What is the state of the spring of Zughar? They said: It is overflowing; its people drink from it and water their crops from it. He said: What is the state of the date palms between Amman and Baysan? They said: They bear fruit every year. He said: What is the state of the lake of Tiberias? They said: It is full. Then he let out a sigh, then another sigh, then swore: If I were to come out from this place of mine, I would not leave any land of Allah's earth without treading upon it, except Taybah, for I have no power over it." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is something that has greatly gladdened me" (he said it three times), "Taybah is Madinah. Moreover, Allah has made my two sanctuaries forbidden to the Dajjal." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) swore: "By Allah, besides whom there is no god, there is no narrow road to it, no wide level place, and no mountain, without an angel with a drawn sword stationed over it until the Day of Resurrection; the Dajjal will not be able to enter it upon its inhabitants." Al-Sha'bi said: Then I met al-Muharrar bin Abi Hurayrah and narrated Fatimah's hadith to him, and he said: I bear witness that my father narrated this same hadith to me just as Fatimah narrated it to you, except that he said: "He is in the east." Then I met al-Qasim bin Muhammad, and he said: I bear witness that Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated this same hadith to me just as Fatimah narrated it to you, except that she said: "The two sanctuaries are forbidden to him: Makkah and Madinah." This wording is from the narration of Yahya bin Sa'id, and the other narrators narrated something similar.
