Al-Shaybani (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from al-Sha'bi, from Sayyidah Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her); she said: I was married to a man of Banu Makhzum, and he divorced me three times and said: "I owe you no maintenance." So I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! My husband divorced me, and I asked him for maintenance, and he said: 'I owe you neither housing nor maintenance.'" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are entitled to housing and maintenance." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) sent for him, and he said: "I have divorced her three times." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then spend your waiting period in the house of Umm Sharik." Then he said: "Umm Sharik is a woman who receives many visitors; rather, spend your waiting period in the house of Ibn Umm Maktum, for he is a blind man."
