حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءٌ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَاصِمِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، أَنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ قَيْسٍ، أُخْتَ الضَّحَّاكِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، وَكَانَتْ عِنْدَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ بَنِي مَخْزُومٍ فَأَخْبَرَتْهُ، أَنَّهُ: طَلَّقَهَا ثَلَاثًا، وَخَرَجَ إِلَى بَعْضِ الْمَغَازِي، وَأَمَرَ وَكِيلًا لَهُ أَنْ يُعْطِيَهَا بَعْضَ النَّفَقَةِ فَاسْتَقَلَّتْهَا فَانْطَلَقَتْ إِلَى إِحْدَى نِسَاءِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَدَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهِيَ عِنْدَهَا، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، هَذِهِ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ قَيْسٍ طَلَّقَهَا فُلَانٌ، فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهَا بِبَعْضِ النَّفَقَةِ فَرَدَّتْهَا، وَزَعَمَ أَنَّهُ شَيْءٌ تَطَوَّلَ بِهِ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «صَدَقَ» ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهَا: «انْتَقِلِي إِلَى أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ فَاعْتَدِّي عِنْدَهَا» ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «لَا إِنَّ أُمَّ مَكْتُومٍ امْرَأَةً يَكْثُرُ عُوَّادُهَا، وَلَكِنِ انْتَقِلِي إِلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ فَإِنَّهُ أَعْمَى» فَانْتَقَلَتْ إِلَيْهِ فَاعْتَدَّتْ عِنْدَهُ حَتَّى انْقَضَتْ عِدَّتُهَا، ثُمَّ خَطَبَهَا أَبُو جَهْمٍ، وَمُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ فَجَاءَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَسْتَأْمِرُهُ فِيهِمَا، فَقَالَ: «أَمَّا أَبُو جَهْمٍ فَأَخَافُ عَلَيْكِ فَسْقَشَتَهُ لِلْعَصَا، وَأَمَّا مُعَاوِيَةُ فَرَجُلٌ أَخْلَقُ مِنَ الْمَالِ» فَتَزَوَّجَتْ أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ
Abd al-Rahman bin Asim bin Thabit (may Allah have mercy on him) relates that Sayyidah Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the sister of al-Dahhak bin Qays and was married to a man of Banu Makhzum, told him that he divorced her three times and set out on one of the military expeditions, and ordered his agent to give her some maintenance. She considered it too little, so she went to one of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came in while she was with her, and she said: "O Messenger of Allah! This is Fatimah bint Qays; so-and-so divorced her. He sent her some maintenance, but she returned it, and he claims that it was something he sent only as a favour." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He has spoken the truth." Then he said to her: "Move to the house of Umm Maktum and spend your waiting period with her." Then he said: "No, Umm Maktum is a woman who has many visitors; rather, move to the house of Abdullah bin Umm Maktum, for he is blind." So she moved to his house and spent her waiting period there until it was over. Then Abu Jahm and Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan proposed to her, and she came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to consult him about the two of them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As for Abu Jahm, I fear that he will be harsh with you; and as for Mu'awiyah, he is a man empty-handed of wealth." After that she married Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him).
