It is narrated from Ubaydullah bin Abdullah al-Thaqafi (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyidah Ra'itah (may Allah be pleased with her), the sister of Abdullah al-Thaqafi, was married to Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). She was a skilled craftswoman who would make things and sell some of her handiwork. She said to Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): "You and your children keep me from spending in the way of Allah, so I am not able to spend in the way of Allah." He said: "If there is no reward for you in it, I would not like you to do it." (She said:) So I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Spend on them, for you have the very reward of what you have spent on them."
