Sayyidah Ra'itah bint Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the wife of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and the mother of his children, was a skilled craftswoman. Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) had no wealth, and she used to spend on him and his children from the price of her handiwork. She said: "By Allah, you and your children have kept me from giving charity, so while I am with you I am not able to give anything in charity." He said: "If there is no reward for you in it, I would not like you to do it." So Sayyidah Ra'itah (may Allah be pleased with her) and her husband Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: "O Messenger of Allah, I am a woman with a craft by which I earn, and neither I, nor my husband, nor my children have anything; they keep me busy so that I do not give charity." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have a reward in that for what you have spent on them."
