Sayyidah Khawlah (may Allah be pleased with her), who was the wife of Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him), said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) owed a man of Banu Sa'idah a wasq of dates (as a debt). He came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) to demand it, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered a man of the Ansar to pay his debt. He paid him with dates inferior to his own dates, and he refused to accept them. The Ansari said: "Do you reject (the payment of) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He said: "Yes, and who has more right to be just than the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?" The eyes of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) filled with tears, and then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He has spoken the truth; who has more right to be just than I? Allah does not purify a community in which the weak cannot take their right from the strong without hindrance." Then he said: "O Khawlah, make a promise to him, take him (with you) and pay his debt, for no creditor leaves his debtor pleased except that the creatures of the land and the fish of the seas pray for mercy for him; and no debtor puts off his creditor while he is able to pay, except that Allah records a sin against him for every day and night."
