Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 19721 — The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ الصَّنْعَانِيُّ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ، قَالَتْ: دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقُلْتُ: هَلْ لَكَ فِي أُخْتِي بِنْتِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ؟، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «فَأَفْعَلُ مَاذَا؟» ، قُلْتُ: فَتَنْكِحُهَا، قَالَ: «أُخْتَكِ؟» ، قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: «أَوَ تُحِبِّينَ ذَلِكَ؟» ، قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ، لَسْتُ بِمُخْلِيَةٍ، وَأَحَبُّ مَنْ شَرِكَنِي فِي خَيْرٍ أُخْتِي، قَالَ: «إِنَّهَا لَا تَحِلُّ لِي» ، قُلْتُ: وَاللهِ لَقَدْ أُنْبِئْتُ أَنَّكَ تَخْطُبُ بِنْتَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، قَالَ: «بِنْتَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ؟» ، قُلْتُ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: «وَاللهِ لَوْ لَمْ تَكُنْ رَبِيبَتِي فِي حِجْرِي مَا حَلَّتْ لِي، إِنَّهَا بِنْتُ أَخِي مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ، أَرْضَعَتْنِي وَإِيَّاهَا ثُوَيْبَةُ فَلَا تَعْرِضْنَ عَلَيَّ بَنَاتِكُنَّ وَأَخَوَاتِكُنَّ»
Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me, and I said: Would you like my sister, the daughter of Abu Sufyan? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What should I do?" I said: Marry her. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your sister?" I said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Would you like that?" I said: Yes, I do not have you to myself alone, and what I would love most is that my sister share this good with me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "She is not lawful for me." I said: By Allah! I have been told that you are proposing to the daughter of Abu Salamah. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The daughter of Abu Salamah?" I said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By Allah! Even if she were not my stepdaughter raised under my care, she would not be lawful for me; she is the daughter of my foster brother. Thuwaybah nursed both me and him, so do not present your daughters and your sisters to me."
