It is narrated from Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to her one day and said: "Where are my two sons?" meaning Sayyiduna Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both). She said: We woke this morning and there is nothing in our house that anyone could taste. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will take them, for I fear that they will cry in front of you while you have nothing. So he went to a certain Jew. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to them and found the two of them playing in a basin, with some leftover dates in front of them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ali, will you not take my two sons back before the heat becomes intense?" Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We woke this morning and there is nothing in our house. If you would sit, O Prophet of Allah, so that I may gather some dates for Fatimah. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat until Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) had gathered some dates for Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her). He put them in his pouch, then came back, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) carried one of the sons and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) the other, until they took them back.
