حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ عِيسَى بْنِ الْمُنْذِرِ الْحِمْصِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ، أَنَا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي نَمْلَةُ بْنُ أَبِي نَمْلَةَ، أَنَّ أَبَا نَمْلَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ، حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ بَيْنَا هُوَ جَالِسٌ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْيَهُودِ، فَقَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ، هَلْ تَكَلَّمُ هَذِهِ الْجَنَازَةُ؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «اللهُ أَعْلَمُ» فَقَالَ الْيَهُودِيُّ: أَنَا أَشْهَدُ أَنَّهَا تَكَلَّمُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَا حَدَّثَكُمْ أَهْلُ الْكِتَابِ فَلَا تُصَدِّقُوهُمْ وَلَا تُكَذِّبُوهُمْ وَقُولُوا آمَنَّا بِاللهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ، فَإِنْ كَانَ حَقًّا لَمْ تُكَذِّبُوا، وَإِنْ كَانَ بَاطِلًا لَمْ تُصَدِّقُوا بِهِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Namlah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man from among the Jews came and said: O Muhammad! Does this deceased person speak? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah knows best." The Jew said: I bear witness that it speaks. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever the People of the Book tell you, neither believe it nor deny it, and say: We believe in Allah, His Books and His Messengers. If it is true, you will not have denied it, and if it is false, you will not have believed it."
