It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Tha'labah (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: "Our land is a land of hunting. I shoot my arrow and mention the name of Allah, I release my trained dog and mention the name of Allah, and I also release my untrained dog and mention the name of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever your arrow holds for you, and you mentioned the name of Allah, eat it; and whatever your trained dog holds for you, and you mentioned the name of Allah, eat it; and whatever your untrained dog holds for you, and you found it alive and slaughtered it, eat it; but if you did not find it alive, do not eat it."
I said: "O Messenger of Allah, our land is a land of the People of the Book, so what do you command us regarding their vessels?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not go near them, unless you cannot manage without them; then wash them with water, and then cook in them."
