Urwah bin al-Zubayr said: Then came the expedition of al-Mundhir bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) - the brother of Banu Sa'idah - to Bi'r Ma'unah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) sent al-Muttalib al-Sulami with them to guide them on the way. The enemies of Allah sent to Amir bin al-Tufayl asking for help, and he helped them against the Muslims. So al-Mundhir bin Amr and his companions were martyred, except Umar bin Umayyah al-Damri, for they took him captive and spared his life until they brought him to Makkah. It was he who buried Habib bin Adi. And on the day of Bi'r Ma'unah the polytheists offered Urwah bin al-Salt a guarantee of safety, but he refused, so they killed him. We were told that on the day of Bi'r Ma'unah, when the enemy surrounded them, the Muslims said: O Allah! We find no one to convey this message from us to Your Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) except You. O Allah! Convey our greeting of peace to him and inform him of our situation.
