Al-Qasim bin Mukhawwal al-Bahzi al-Sulami said: I heard my father, Sayyiduna Mukhawwal (may Allah be pleased with him), narrate - and he had lived in both the Jahiliyyah and Islam - he said: I set some of my snares at al-Abwa', and a deer got caught in one of them; then the snare overturned, so we went out following its tracks. I found a man who had taken it, and we took our dispute to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We found him (peace and blessings be upon him) at al-Abwa' under a tree, where he had made shade with a leather mat. He judged it between us half and half. I said: O Messenger of Allah! These are my ropes tied on its leg. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is so." I said: O Messenger of Allah! We stay by the water, and thirsty camels come to us and we give them water to drink; is there any reward for us in that? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, there is a reward in every thirsty living being (with a liver)." I said: O Messenger of Allah! We come across tall camels whose udders are tied, while we are hungry; what should we do? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say: O owner of the camels! O owner of the camels! - three times - if he comes, well and good; otherwise untie its udder, then milk and drink, after that tie the udder again, and leave some of the milk."

Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) narrated to us, saying: "A time will come upon people when the best wealth will be sheep between the two mosques - that is, the Mosque of Madinah and the Mosque of Makkah - which will eat the leaves of trees and go down to the waters; their owner will eat from their milk and wear from their wool - or he said: their hair - while trials will blaze among the tribes of the Arabs, and blood will continue to be shed." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times.

I said: O Messenger of Allah! Advise me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fear Allah, establish the prayer, pay the zakah, perform Hajj to the House and Umrah, be dutiful to your parents, maintain the ties of kinship, honour the guest, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and stay with the truth wherever it may be."
