Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 17641 — from Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar

Mu'awiyah bin Qurrah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated from Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) entered, wearing leather socks (khuffs). The first person I saw wearing leather socks in Islam was Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him). The people began touching them and saying: What is this? It was said: These are leather socks. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Soon leather socks will become plentiful among you." The Companions said: O Messenger of Allah! Then what do you command us regarding ablution for prayer? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wipe over them, or perform ablution over them."
