Abu Burdah (may Allah have mercy on him) from his father (Sayyiduna Abu Musa, may Allah be pleased with him), and Abu al-Malih from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him), narrate; both (Companions) said: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) travelled, the Muhajirun would be the ones closest to him (peace and blessings be upon him). One night we found him (peace and blessings be upon him) missing from his place, and we feared that something had befallen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So we went out looking for him (peace and blessings be upon him), and there was a noise like the sound of a millstone. Then we met him (peace and blessings be upon him) coming back, and I said: "We found you missing, O Messenger of Allah, and we feared that something had befallen you." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, but an angel came to me from my Lord and gave me the choice between half of my Ummah entering Paradise or (being granted) intercession, and I chose intercession." We said: "Then we ask you, by the right of Islam and by the right of our companionship, to include us in it." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are included in it." Then two men came and said the same, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them too: "Yes." Then another came, until the people became many, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I will make my intercession for whoever of my Ummah dies without associating anything with Allah."
