حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ قَالَا: ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ مَيْمُونِ بْنِ أَبِي شَبِيبٍ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَوْصِنِي، قَالَ: «اتَّقِ اللهَ حَيْثُمَا كُنْتَ» قَالَ: زِدْنِي، قَالَ: «أَتْبِعِ السَّيِّئَةَ الْحَسَنَةَ تَمْحُهَا، وَخَالِقِ النَّاسَ بِخُلُقٍ حَسَنٍ»
Maymun bin Abi Shabib (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, advise me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fear Allah wherever you are." I said: Tell me more. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Follow a bad deed with a good deed and it will wipe it out, and treat people with good character."
