Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 17422 — In the time of the Prophet ﷺ, two men

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ قَالَ: اسْتَبَّ رَجُلَانِ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعِنْدَهُ رَجُلَانِ، فَغَضِبَ أَحَدُهُمَا حَتَّى جَعَلَ يَتَمَرَّغُ مِنَ الْغَضَبِ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ كَلِمَةً لَوْ قَالَهَا لَأَذْهَبَتِ الَّذِي بِهِ مِنَ الْغَضَبِ» ، فَدَنَوْتُ مِنْهُ فَقُلْتُ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ، مَا هِيَ يَا نَبِيٌّ؟ وَأَحْبَبْتُ أَنْ أَعْلَمَ الْغَضَبَ فَدَنَوْتُ مِنْهُ فَقُلْتُ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ، مَا هِيَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ؟ وَأَحْبَبْتُ أَنْ أَعْلَمَ: أَلَهُ خَاصَّةً أُمْ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَامَّةً؟ قَالَ: «اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ» فَدَنَوْتُ مِنَ الرَّجُلِ فَقُلْتُهَا لَهُ فَلَمْ يَقُلْهَا، فَلَمْ يَزْدَدْ إِلَّا غَضَبًا
Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: In the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), two men insulted each other while two men were present with him (peace and blessings be upon him). One of them became so angry that he began to roll about from anger. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I know a word which, if he were to say it, would remove all his anger." So I drew near to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Prophet of Allah, what is it, O Prophet? And I also wanted to know (whether it was specific or general for the believers). (The narrator said:) I drew near to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Prophet of Allah, what is it, O Prophet of Allah? And I wanted to know whether it was specific to him or general for the believers. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min al-shaytan al-rajim' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from Satan, the accursed)." So I drew near to the man and told him this word, but he did not say it, and his anger only increased.
