حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مَعْبَدٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ الْمِصْرِيُّ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ قَالَا: ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " انْتَسَبَ رَجُلَانِ مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ عَلَى عَهْدِ مُوسَى صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَحَدُهُمَا مُسْلِمٌ وَالْآخَرُ مُشْرِكٌ، فَانْتَسَبَ الْمُشْرِكُ فَقَالَ: أَنَا فُلَانُ بْنُ فُلَانٍ، حَتَّى عَدَّ تِسْعَةَ آبَاءٍ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لِصَاحِبِهِ: انْتَسِبْ لَا أُمَّ لَكَ، فَقَالَ: أَنَا فُلَانُ بْنُ فُلَانٍ وَأَنَا بَرِيءٌ مِمَّا وَرَاءَ ذَلِكَ، فَنَادَى مُوسَى فِي النَّاسِ فَجَمَعَهُمْ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: قَدْ قُضِي بَيْنَكُمَا، أَمَّا أَنْتَ الَّذِي انْتَسَبْتَ إِلَى تِسْعَةِ آبَاءٍ فَأَنْتَ تُوَفِّيهُمُ الْعَاشِرَ فِي النَّارِ، وَأَمَّا الَّذِي انْتَسَبْتَ إِلَى أَبَوَيْكَ فَأَنْتَ امْرُؤٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْإِسْلَامِ "
Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Two men of the Children of Israel recounted their lineage in the time of Musa (peace be upon him); one of them was a Muslim and the other a polytheist. The polytheist recounted his lineage and said: I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so, until he had counted nine forefathers. Then he said to his companion: Recount your lineage, may you have no mother! So he said: I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so, and I disown (the lineage) beyond that. Then Musa (peace be upon him) called out to the people and gathered them, and said: Judgement has been passed between you two. As for you, who traced your lineage to nine forefathers, you will complete them as the tenth in the Fire; and as for you, who mentioned only your two parents, you are a man from the people of Islam."
