Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We came to Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Narrate to us one of the rare hadiths of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: I was riding behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a donkey, and he said: "O Mu'adh!" I said: Here I am, O Messenger of Allah! He said: "Do you know what the right of Allah over His servants is?" I said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: "The right of Allah over His servants is that they worship Him and do not associate anything with Him." Then he said: "And do you know what the right of the servants over Allah is when they do that?" I said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: "When they do that, their right over Allah is that He does not punish them."
