حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، ثنا أَبِي، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ، قَالَا: ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ الصَّوَّافِ، حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ أَبِي مَيْمُونَةَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ السُّلَمِيِّ، قَالَ: صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَعَطَسَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ، فَقُلْتُ: يَرْحَمُكَ اللهُ، فَرَمَانِي الْقَوْمُ بِأَبْصَارِهِمْ، فَقُلْتُ: وَاثُكْلَ أُمَّيَاهُ مَا شَأْنُكُمْ تَنْظُرُونَ إِلَيَّ؟، فَجَعَلُوا يَضْرِبُونَ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ عَلَى أَفْخَاذِهِمْ، فَعَرَفْتُ أَنَّهُمْ يُصَمِّتُونِي، لَكِنِّي سَكَتُّ، فَلَمَّا صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، بِأَبِي هُوَ وَأُمِّي، مَا ضَرَبَنِي وَمَا كَهَرَنِي وَلَا سَبَّنِي، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «إِنَّ هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةَ لَا يَحِلُّ فِيهَا شَيْءٌ مِنْ كَلَامِ النَّاسِ هَذَا، إِنَّمَا هُوَ التَّسْبِيحُ وَالتَّكْبِيرُ وَقِرَاءَةُ الْقُرْآنِ» ، أَوْ كَمَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin al-Hakam (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: I prayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and a man among the people sneezed, so I said: "Yarhamuk Allah (May Allah have mercy on you)." At this the people stared at me, so I said: "May my mother weep for me! What is the matter with you that you are looking at me?" They began striking their thighs with their hands, and I understood that they were trying to make me quiet, so I fell silent. Then, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) completed the prayer, may my father and mother be sacrificed for him, he neither struck me, nor scolded me, nor reviled me; rather he said: "Nothing of this kind of people's speech is permissible in this prayer; it is only glorification (tasbih), magnification (takbir) and the recitation of the Qur'an," or as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said.
