حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْبَابْلُتِّيُّ، ثنا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي هِلَالُ بْنُ أَبِي مَيْمُونَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ السُّلَمِيُّ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا كُنَّا حَدِيثَ عَهْدٍ بِالْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، فَجَاءَ اللهُ بِالْإِسْلَامِ وَإِنَّ رِجَالًا مِنَّا يَتَطَيَّرُونَ، فَقَالَ: «ذَاكَ شَيْءٌ يَجِدُونَهُ فِي صُدُورِهِمْ فَلَا يَصُدَّنَّهُمْ» ، قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَرِجَالٌ مِنَّا يَأْتُونَ الْكُهَّاَنَ، قَالَ: «لَا، فَلَا تَأْتُوهُمْ» ، قَالَ: وَرِجَالٌ مِنَّا يَخُطُّونَ، قَالَ: «قَدْ كَانَ نَبِيُّ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ يَخُطُّ، فَمَنْ وَافَقَ خَطَّهُ فَذَاكَ»
Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin al-Hakam al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, we had only recently come out of the days of ignorance (Jahiliyyah) when Allah sent guidance with Islam, and among us are men who take evil omens." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is something they feel in their breasts, so let it not hold them back from anything." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, and among us are men who go to soothsayers." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, do not go to them." I said: "And among us are men who draw lines (in the sand)." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "One of the prophets used to draw lines, so whoever matches his lines, that is fine."
