حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ، ثنا الْهَيْثَمُ بْنُ مَرْوَانَ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، ثنا زَيْدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ، قَالَ لِمُعَاوِيَةَ فِي الْكَلَامِ الَّذِي جَرَى بَيْنَهُمَا فِي بَيْعَةِ يَزِيدَ: وَأَنْتَ يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ أَخْبَرَتْنِي أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِذَا كَانَ فِي الْأَرْضِ خَلِيفَتَانِ فَاقْتُلُوا أَحَدَهُمَا»
Sa'id bin Jubayr (may Allah have mercy on him) relates that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both), in the conversation that took place between him and Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) concerning the pledge of allegiance to Yazid, said to him: And you yourself, O Mu'awiyah, told me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When there are two caliphs on the earth, kill one of them."
