حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْأَسْفَاطِيُّ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ النَّشِيطِيُّ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَهْلِ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ الْأَهْوَازِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْعَتَكِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَلَاذٍ، عَنْ نُمَيْرِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ مَسْرُوحٍ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ أَبِي عَامِرٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «نِعْمَ الْحَيُّ الْأَزْدُ وَالْأَشْعَرِيُّونَ» ، فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ: لَيْسَ هَكَذَا قَالَ، إِنَّمَا قَالَ: «هُمْ مِنِّي وَإِلَيَّ»
Amir bin Abi Amir al-Ash'ari (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Abu Amir al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "What an excellent tribe are al-Azd and the Ash'aris!" At this, Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say it like that; rather he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They are from me and belong to me."
