It is narrated from Sayyiduna Malik bin Nadlah al-Jushami (may Allah be pleased with him) that he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) shabby and in a poor state, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you have wealth?" He said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is your wealth?" He said: Camels, horses and slaves. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah grants you wealth - or he said: good - let it be seen upon you, for when Allah honours a servant, He loves that His honour be seen upon him."
He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do your camels give birth with sound ears?" He said: Do camels give birth without ears? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then you take a blade and cut off their ears and say: This is a bahr; and you slit their ears and say: These are surum; and then you make them unlawful for yourself?" I said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Everything that Allah has given you is lawful; the forearm of Allah is stronger than your forearm, and the blade of Allah is sharper than your blade."
I said: O Prophet of Allah! I go to a man and he neither hosts me nor honours me; shall I repay him in kind, or shall I host him? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rather, host him."
