Abu al-Ahwas (may Allah have mercy on him), the son of Sayyiduna Malik bin Nadlah al-Jushami (may Allah be pleased with him), relates that my father came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in tattered clothes, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Do you have wealth?" He said: Every kind of wealth, which Allah has given me: camels, cattle and sheep. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let what Allah has given you be seen upon you."
He said: O Messenger of Allah! A man whom I passed by refused to show me hospitality, and then fortune compelled him and brought him to me. Should I show him hospitality or withhold it from him? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rather, show him hospitality."
