Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 16368 — the Prophet ﷺ said: O Ka'b bin Ujrah

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ الْمَكِّيُّ، ثنا بَكْرُ بْنُ خَلَفٍ، ثنا قُدَامَةُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَشْجَعِيُّ، ثنا دَاوُدُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَةَ، عَنْ أبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «يَا كَعْبُ بْنَ عُجْرَةَ النَّاسُ غَادِيَانِ فَمُشْتَرٍ نَفْسَهُ فَمُعْتِقُهَا وَبَائِعٌ نَفْسَهُ فَمُهْلِكُهَا»
: «يَا كَعْبُ بْنَ عُجْرَةَ الصَّلَاةُ بُرْهَانٌ، وَالصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ، وَالصَّدَقَةُ تُطْفِئُ غَضَبَ الرَّبِّ كَمَا يُطْفِئُ الْمَاءُ النَّارَ»
: «يَا كَعْبُ بْنَ عُجْرَةَ تَعَوَّذْ مِنْ إِمَارَةِ السُّفَهَاءِ» ، قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَمَا إِمَارَةُ السُّفَهَاءِ؟، قَالَ: «إِنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ أُمَرَاءُ يُحَدِّثُونَ فَيَكْذِبُونَ وَيَعْمَلُونَ فَيَعْلَمُونَ، فَمَنْ أَتَاهُمْ فَصَدَّقَهُمْ بِكَذِبِهِمْ وَأَعَانَهُمْ عَلَى ظُلْمِهِمْ فَلَيْسُ مِنِّي وَلَسْتُ مِنْهُ وَلَيْسَ بِوَارِدٍ عَلَى الْحَوْضِ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَأْتِهِمْ وَلَمْ يُصَدِّقْهُمْ بِكَذِبِهِمْ وَلَمْ يُعِنْهُمْ عَلَى ظُلْمِهِمْ فَهُوَ مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُ وَهُوَ وَارِدٌ عَلَى الْحَوْضِ»
: «يَا كَعْبُ بْنَ عُجْرَةَ الصَّلَاةُ بُرْهَانٌ، وَالصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ، وَالصَّدَقَةُ تُطْفِئُ غَضَبَ الرَّبِّ كَمَا يُطْفِئُ الْمَاءُ النَّارَ»
: «يَا كَعْبُ بْنَ عُجْرَةَ تَعَوَّذْ مِنْ إِمَارَةِ السُّفَهَاءِ» ، قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَمَا إِمَارَةُ السُّفَهَاءِ؟، قَالَ: «إِنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ أُمَرَاءُ يُحَدِّثُونَ فَيَكْذِبُونَ وَيَعْمَلُونَ فَيَعْلَمُونَ، فَمَنْ أَتَاهُمْ فَصَدَّقَهُمْ بِكَذِبِهِمْ وَأَعَانَهُمْ عَلَى ظُلْمِهِمْ فَلَيْسُ مِنِّي وَلَسْتُ مِنْهُ وَلَيْسَ بِوَارِدٍ عَلَى الْحَوْضِ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَأْتِهِمْ وَلَمْ يُصَدِّقْهُمْ بِكَذِبِهِمْ وَلَمْ يُعِنْهُمْ عَلَى ظُلْمِهِمْ فَهُوَ مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْهُ وَهُوَ وَارِدٌ عَلَى الْحَوْضِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Ujrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ka'b bin Ujrah, people set out in the morning in two ways: one buys himself and sets himself free, and the other sells himself and destroys himself."
"O Ka'b bin Ujrah, prayer is a proof, fasting is a shield, and charity extinguishes the anger of the Lord just as water extinguishes fire."
"O Ka'b bin Ujrah, seek refuge from the rule of fools." I said: O Messenger of Allah, what is the rule of fools? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Soon there will be rulers who, when they speak, lie, and who act and know (what they are doing). So whoever comes to them, affirms their lies and helps them in their oppression, he is not from me and I am not from him, and he will not come to the Pond. And whoever does not come to them, does not affirm their lies and does not help them in their oppression, he is from me and I am from him, and he will come to the Pond."
