Abdullah bin Urwah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated: A year of famine drove al-Nabighah of Banu Ja'dah (may Allah be pleased with him) (to the city), so he came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) while he was sitting in Madinah, and recited these verses to him in the mosque: (1) When you became our ruler, you reminded us of al-Siddiq, Uthman and al-Faruq, and the destitute found relief. (2) You made people equal in what is right, so they became equal, and the pitch-dark (night) turned into morning. (3) Abu Layla has come to you, brought by a sturdy she-camel that cuts through the darkness of the night and crosses the deserts, (4) so that you may mend that side of him which the turns of the nights and a harsh age have shaken. Ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Leave that, Abu Layla, for poetry is the weakest of your means with us. As for the choicest of our wealth, it is for the family of al-Zubayr, and as for its surplus, Banu Asad and Banu Tamim keep it from you. But you have two rights in the wealth of Allah: one right because you saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and one right because you share with the people of Islam. Then he gave an order concerning him, and he was taken into Dar al-Na'am (the livestock enclosure), and seven young she-camels, a beast of burden and horses were ordered for him, and his mounts were loaded with wheat and dates. Then al-Nabighah (may Allah be pleased with him) began (out of severe hunger) to eat the raw grains hastily, so Ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Alas for Abu Layla, how much hardship has reached him! Al-Nabighah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whenever Quraysh rule and act justly, are asked for mercy and show mercy, make a covenant and fulfil it, and make a promise and keep it, then I and all the prophets will go ahead (to the Pool on the Day of Resurrection) for the surging crowd."
