Sayyiduna al-Faltan bin Asim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when revelation came down upon him. Whenever revelation came down upon him, his gaze would not turn aside, his eyes would remain open, and his hearing, sight and heart would be wholly devoted to what was coming from Allah. When the revelation was complete, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the scribe: "Write: 'Not equal are those of the believers who sit (at home) and those who strive in the way of Allah' [Surah al-Nisa: 95]." At this a blind man stood up and said: What is our fault? Then revelation came down upon him again. We said to the blind man: Revelation is coming down upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So he remained standing, saying: I repent to Allah. When the revelation was complete, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Write: 'except those who are disabled' [Surah al-Nisa: 95]."
