The narrator said: Hayyaj bin Imran (may Allah have mercy on him) came to Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him). His father had said about a slave of his: He has run away; if I get hold of him I will cut off a part of him, or his hand. Then he got hold of him. So Hayyaj went to Sayyiduna Imran (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him about it, and told him what his father had said. Sayyiduna Imran (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Tell your father to make expiation for his oath or to free his slave, and not to cut off any part of him, "for the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to urge charity in his sermons and forbid mutilation." Then he related that he went to Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him), and he too said the same as Sayyiduna Imran (may Allah be pleased with him).
