Sayyiduna Afif al-Kindi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was a merchant. By Allah, I was with Abbas when a man came out near him. He looked at the sun, and when he saw that it had passed its zenith, he stood up to pray. Then a woman came out of the same tent from which that man had come out, and she stood behind him and began to pray. Then a boy close to the age of puberty came out of that tent and he too began to pray. I asked Abbas: "Who is this?" He said: "This is Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abd al-Muttalib, my brother's son." I asked: "And who is this woman?" He said: "His wife, Khadijah bint Khuwaylid." I asked: "Who is this young man?" He said: "Ali bin Abi Talib, his paternal cousin." I asked: "What is it that he is doing?" He said: "He is praying, and he claims that he is a prophet. No one has followed him in his affair except his wife and this young man, his cousin. And he claims that the treasures of Chosroes and Caesar will be opened to him." Afif (may Allah be pleased with him) later accepted Islam. He was a paternal cousin of al-Ash'ath bin Qays, and he used to grieve over the Islam he had missed that day.
