عكرمة بن أبي جهل بن هشام بن المغيرة بن عبد الله بن عمر بن مخزوم أمه أم مجالد امرأة من بني هلال، أسلم عام الفتح، واستشهد يوم اليرموك في خلافة عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنهما، وقيل: استشهد يوم أجنادين
Ikrimah bin Abi Jahl bin Hisham bin al-Mughirah bin Abdullah bin Umar bin Makhzum (may Allah be pleased with him); his mother was Umm Mujalid, a woman of Banu Hilal; he accepted Islam in the year of the Conquest and was martyred on the day of Yarmuk during the caliphate of Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and it is said he was martyred on the day of Ajnadayn

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ، ثَنَا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ، ثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ قَالَ: لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ هَرَبَ عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ أَبِي جَهْلٍ فَرَكِبَ الْبَحْرَ فَخَبَّ بِهِمُ الْبَحْرُ، فَجَعَلَتِ الصَّوَارِي وَمَنْ فِي الْبَحْرِ يَدْعُونَ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَيَسْتَغِيثونَ بِهِ، فَقَالَ: «مَا هَذَا؟» فَقِيلَ: مَكَانٌ لَا يَنْفَعُ فِيهِ إلَّا اللهُ، فَقَالَ عِكْرِمَةُ: «فَهَذَا إِلَهُ مُحَمَّدٍ الَّذِي يَدْعُونَا إِلَيْهِ، ارْجِعُوا بِنَا إِلَيْهِ» فَرَجَعَ وَأَسْلَمَ، وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَتُهُ قَدْ أَسْلَمَتْ قَبْلَهُ فَكَانَا عَلَى نِكَاحِهِمَا
Ibn Abi Mulaykah said: On the day of the Conquest of Makkah, Sayyiduna Ikrimah bin Abi Jahl (may Allah be pleased with him) fled and boarded a ship at sea. A storm arose at sea, and the sailors and those at sea began calling upon Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and seeking His help. He asked: What is this? He was told: This is a place where nothing avails except Allah. Ikrimah said: This, then, is the God of Muhammad to whom he calls us; take us back to him. So he returned and accepted Islam. His wife had already accepted Islam before him, so the two of them remained upon their marriage.
