Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 14678 — the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said

حَدَّثَنَا مُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، حَدَّثَنِي جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ رَجَاءٍ، عَنْ أَوْسِ بْنِ ضَمْعَجٍ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «يَؤُمُّ الْقَوْمَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ قِرَاءَةً، فَإِنْ كَانَتِ الْقِرَاءَةُ وَاحِدَةً فَأَقْدَمُهُمْ هِجْرَةً، فَإِنْ كَانَتِ الْهِجْرَةُ وَاحِدَةً فَأَفْقَهُهُمْ فِقْهًا، فَإِنْ كَانَ الْفِقْهُ وَاحِدًا فَأَكْبَرُهُمْ سِنًّا، وَلَا يُؤَمَّنَّ رَجُلٌ فِي سُلْطَانِهِ، وَلَا يُجْلَسْ عَلَى تَكْرِمَتِهِ فِي بَيْتِهِ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ»
Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amr Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The people should be led in prayer by the one who has recited the most. If the recitation is the same, then the one who emigrated first. If the emigration is the same, then the one with the deepest understanding of fiqh. If the fiqh is the same, then the one oldest in age. No man should lead another in prayer within the area of his authority, nor sit in his place of honour in his house except with his permission."
