Khalid bin Umayr al-Adawi narrated: Utbah bin Ghazwan (may Allah be pleased with him) addressed us. He praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: "To proceed: Indeed, this world has announced its end and has swiftly turned its back, and nothing remains of it except the like of the dregs of a vessel which its owner pours out. And indeed, you are about to move from it to an abode that never perishes, so move to it with the best of what you have with you. For we have been told that a stone is thrown from the edge of Hell and keeps falling for seventy years without reaching its bottom. By Allah! It will surely be filled. Are you amazed? We have also been told that between two of the door-leaves of the gates of Paradise is a distance of forty years, and a day will surely come when it will be filled with a great crowd. And I saw myself as the seventh of seven with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); we had no food except the leaves of trees, until our mouths became sore. And I picked up a cloak and tore it between myself and Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas - one of the horsemen of Islam - and I wore half of it as my lower garment. Today there is not one of us still alive who is not the governor of some city. And I seek refuge with Allah from being great in my own eyes and small in the sight of Allah. And indeed there has never been a prophethood that was not transformed until its end was kingship. Soon you will experience the rulers, or be tested by them, after us."
