حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مَعِينٍ، ثنا أَزْهَرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ، قَالَ: أَنْبَأَنِي ثُمَامَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: فَقَدَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثَابِتَ بْنَ قَيْسِ بْنِ شَمَّاسٍ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: أَنَا أَعْلَمُ خَبَرَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَأَتَاهُ فَوَجَدَهُ فِي بَيْتٍ مُنَكِّبَ رَأْسِهِ يَبْكِي، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، افْتَقَدَكَ، فَقَالَ: رَفَعْتُ صَوْتِي فَوْقَ صَوْتِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَدْ حَبِطَ عَمَلِي، وَأَنَا مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ، فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: «ارْجِعْ إِلَيْهِ، وَأَعْلِمْهُ أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ، وَأَنَّهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ»
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) missed Sayyiduna Thabit bin Qays bin Shammas (may Allah be pleased with him) (in the gathering) and asked about him. A man said: "O Messenger of Allah, I know his news." So he went to him and found him in his house, head bowed, weeping. He said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) missed you and asked about you." He said: "I raised my voice above the voice of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so my deeds have been nullified and I am one of the people of the Fire." So the man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (and told him this), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go back to him and tell him that he is not one of the people of the Fire; rather, he is one of the people of Paradise."
