حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ، ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا قَيْسُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ، عَنِ الْأَغَرِّ بْنِ الصَّبَّاحِ، عَنْ خَلِيفَةَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ، عَنْ أَبِي نَصْرٍ قَالَ: سُئِلَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ كَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْتَحِنُ النِّسَاءَ؟ قَالَ: «كَانَ إِذَا أَتَتْهُ الْمَرْأَةُ لِتُسْلِمَ حَلَّفَهَا بِاللهِ مَا خَرَجَتْ لِبُغْضِ زَوْجٍ، وَبِاللهِ مَا خَرَجَتْ لِاكْتِسَابِ دِينَارٍ، وَبِاللهِ مَا خَرَجَتْ رَغْبَةً عَنْ أَرْضٍ إِلَى أَرْضٍ، وَبِاللهِ مَا خَرَجَتْ إِلَّا حُبًّا لِلَّهِ وَلِرَسُولِهِ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was asked: How did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) test the women? He said: "When a woman came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) to accept Islam, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would make her swear by Allah: 'By Allah, you did not leave out of hatred for your husband; by Allah, you did not leave to earn wealth; by Allah, you did not leave out of desire for one land over another; by Allah, you left only out of love for Allah and His Messenger.'"
