حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي اللَّيْثِ، ثنا الْأَشْجَعِيُّ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنِ الْأَغَرِّ بْنِ الصَّبَّاحِ، عَنْ خَلِيفَةَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ، عَنْ أَبِي نَصْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ: {وَكَيْفَ تَكْفُرُونَ وَأَنْتُمْ تُتْلَى عَلَيْكُمْ آيَاتُ اللهِ وَفِيكُمْ رَسُولُهُ} [آل عمران: ١٠١] قَالَ: «كَانَ الْأَوْسُ يَتَحَدَّثُونَ إِذْ ذَكَرُوا أَمْرَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ , فَغَضِبُوا حَتَّى كَانَ بَيْنَهُمْ حَرْبٌ، فَأَخَذُوا السِّلَاحَ , وَمَشَى بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَى بَعْضٍ» ، فَنَزَلَتْ: {وَكَيْفَ تَكْفُرُونَ، وَأَنْتُمْ تُتْلَى عَلَيْكُمْ آيَاتُ اللهِ} [آل عمران: ١٠١] إِلَى قَوْلِهِ: {فَأَنْقَذَكُمْ مِنْهَا} [آل عمران: ١٠٣]
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said concerning this statement of Allah Almighty: "And how can you disbelieve while the verses of Allah are recited to you and His Messenger is among you?" [Al Imran: 101]: The tribe of Aws were talking among themselves when they recalled the affairs of the Jahiliyyah (the Age of Ignorance), and they became angry until war was about to break out between them; they took up their weapons and advanced on one another. Then this verse was revealed: "And how can you disbelieve, while the verses of Allah are recited to you" [Al Imran: 101] up to: "and He saved you from it" [Al Imran: 103].
