Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: My father sent me to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with a gift. I came to him ((peace and blessings be upon him)) while he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) was in the house of Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her). He ((peace and blessings be upon him)) laid me down on part of a pillow, until, when it was the middle of the night, he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) got up, looked towards the sky, then recited the last verses of Surah Al Imran: "Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of night and day there are signs for people of understanding" [Surah Al Imran: 190], until he completed the surah. Then he went to a hanging waterskin, used the miswak and performed ablution; he performed a complete ablution and used very little water. Then he nudged me, so I got up and performed ablution, then stood on his left side ((peace and blessings be upon him)), so he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) turned me around and made me stand on his right side. He ((peace and blessings be upon him)) kept reciting while twisting my ear, and prayed ten rak'ahs, then prayed witr, then slept, and whenever he slept he would snore. Then Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came and woke him ((peace and blessings be upon him)) for the prayer, so he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) got up, prayed two light rak'ahs, then went out for the prayer.
