حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنِي سَلَمَةُ بْنُ كُهَيْلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي بُكَيْرٌ الطَّائِيُّ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ، فَلَقِيتُ كُرَيْبًا فَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: بِتُّ عِنْدَ خَالَتِي مَيْمُونَةَ فَرَمَقْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَمْ يُصَلِّي، فَقَامَ فَبَالَ، ثُمَّ أَتَى الْقِرْبَةَ فَأَطْلَقَ شِنَاقَهَا وَصَبَّ فِي قَصْعَةٍ أَوْ جَفْنَةٍ فَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ وَذِرَاعَيْهِ، ثُمَّ نَامَ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فَتَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءًا حَسَنًا بَيْنَ الْوُضُوءَيْنِ، فَقَامَ يُصَلِّي فَجِئْتُ فَقُمْتُ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ، فَأَخَذَنِي فَجَعَلَنِي عَنْ يَمِينِهِ، فَتَكَامَلَتْ صَلَاةُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ اللَّيْلَ ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً، ثُمَّ نَامَ وَكَانَ يُعْرَفُ نَوْمُهُ بِنَفْخِهِ فَنَامَ حَتَّى نَفَخَ، ثُمَّ خَرَجَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ، وَكَانَ يَقُولُ فِي صَلَاتِهِ، أَوْ فِي دُعَائِهِ: «اللهُمَّ اجْعَلْ فِي سَمْعِي نُورًا، وَفِي بَصَرِي نُورًا، وَفِي قَلْبِي نُورًا، وَعَنْ يَمِينِي نُورًا، وَعَنْ شِمَالِي نُورًا، وَعَنْ أَمَامِي نُورًا، وَخَلْفِي نُورًا، وَفَوْقِي نُورًا، وَتَحْتِي نُورًا، وَاجْعَلْ لِي نُورًا»
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I stayed the night at the house of my maternal aunt Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), and I kept watching the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to see how much he prayed. He ((peace and blessings be upon him)) got up, urinated, then came to the waterskin, undid its tie and poured water into a bowl or a basin, then washed his face and both forearms, then slept. Then he got up and performed a good ablution between the two ablutions, and then stood for prayer. I came and stood on his left side ((peace and blessings be upon him)), so he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) took hold of me and placed me on his right side. The night prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was completed at thirteen rak'ahs. Then he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) slept, and his ((peace and blessings be upon him)) sleep was recognised by his snoring, so he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) kept snoring; then he went out for the prayer. He ((peace and blessings be upon him)) used to say in his prayer, or in his supplication: "O Allah, place light in my hearing, place light in my sight, place light in my heart, place light on my right, place light on my left, place light in front of me, place light behind me, place light above me, place light beneath me, and make light for me."
