حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، ثنا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، فِي قَوْلِهِ: {حُرِّمَتْ عَلَيْكُمْ أُمَّهَاتُكُمْ} [النساء: ٢٣] قَالَ: «حُرِّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ سَبْعٌ مِنَ النَّسَبِ، وَسَبْعٌ مِنَ الصِّهْرِ» ، وَقَوْلِهِ {وَأُحِلَّ لَكُمْ مَا وَرَاءِ ذَلِكُمْ} [النساء: ٢٤] قَالَ: «مِنَ النَّسَبِ» ، وَقَوْلِهِ {كِتَابَ اللهِ عَلَيْكُمْ} [النساء: ٢٤] قَالَ: «الْأَرْبَعُ»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said concerning this verse: "Forbidden to you are your mothers" [Surah al-Nisa: 23], he said: "Seven (women) by lineage and seven by marriage have been forbidden to you." And concerning "And lawful to you are those beyond these" [Surah al-Nisa: 24], he said: "That is, from lineage." And concerning "The decree of Allah upon you" [Surah al-Nisa: 24], he said: "That is, four wives."
