Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 11513 — whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ الصَّنْعَانِيُّ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبَةَ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ الْحُصَيْنِ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا بَعَثَ جُيُوشَهُ قَالَ: «اخْرُجُوا بِسْمِ اللهِ، تُقَاتِلُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ مَنْ كَفَرَ بِاللهِ، لَا تَعْتْدُوا وَلَا تُمَثِّلُوا وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا الْوِلْدَانَ وَلَا أَصْحَابَ الصَّوَامِعِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) dispatched his armies, he would say: "Go forth in the name of Allah, and fight in the path of Allah those who disbelieve in Allah. Do not transgress, do not mutilate (the bodies of the dead), do not kill children, and do not kill the people of the hermitages."
