( 198 ) حَدِيثُ النَّوَّاسِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عُقْرُ دَارِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ بِالشَّامِ ، يَأْتِي إِنْ شَاءَ اللهُ تَعَالَى فِي الْفِتَنِ .
وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ أَبُو طَالِبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ ، عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عَبَّادٍ ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ الْأَحْوَلِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ الْخَوْلَانِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : لَا تَزَالُ عِصَابَةٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يُقَاتِلُونَ عَلَى أَبْوَابِ دِمَشْقَ وَمَا حَوْلَهُ ، وَعَلَى أَبْوَابِ دِمَشْقَ وَمَا حَوْلَهُ ، وَعَلَى أَبْوَابِ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ وَمَا حَوْلَهُ ، لَا يَضُرُّهُمْ مَنْ خَذَلَهُمْ ، ظَاهِرِينَ عَلَى الْحَقِّ إِلَى أَنْ تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ .
وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ أَبُو طَالِبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ ، عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عَبَّادٍ ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ الْأَحْوَلِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ الْخَوْلَانِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : لَا تَزَالُ عِصَابَةٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يُقَاتِلُونَ عَلَى أَبْوَابِ دِمَشْقَ وَمَا حَوْلَهُ ، وَعَلَى أَبْوَابِ دِمَشْقَ وَمَا حَوْلَهُ ، وَعَلَى أَبْوَابِ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ وَمَا حَوْلَهُ ، لَا يَضُرُّهُمْ مَنْ خَذَلَهُمْ ، ظَاهِرِينَ عَلَى الْحَقِّ إِلَى أَنْ تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Nawwas bin Sam'an (may Allah be pleased with him): "The centre and refuge of the home of the believers is the land of Syria." This hadith will come (in detail), if Allah wills, in the section on trials (fitan).
Imam Abu Ya'la narrated that it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A group of my Ummah will continue fighting (the enemy) at the gates of Damascus and its surroundings, and at the gates of Bayt al-Maqdis and its outskirts. Those who abandon them and leave them alone will not be able to harm them; they will remain dominant (over their opponents), standing firm upon the truth, until the Hour is established."

وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ هُوَ الْفَزَارِيُّ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِدْرِيسَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّكُمْ سَتُجَنِّدُونَ أَجْنَادًا ... الْحَدِيثَ فِي فَضْلِ الشَّامِ .
It is narrated from Abu Idris al-Khawlani (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, you will soon take the form of organised armies (that is, you will be divided into several forces for various military campaigns)." After this the narrator related the full hadith concerning the virtue of Syria.

قَالَ سَعِيدٌ ، وَحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ حَلْبَسٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ عَمُودَ الْكِتَابِ انْتُزِعَ مِنْ تَحْتِ وِسَادَتِي ، فَأَتْبَعْتُهُ بَصَرِي فَإِذَا هُوَ نُورٌ سَاطِعٌ عُمِدَ بِهِ إِلَى الشَّامِ ، أَلَا وَإِنَّ الْإِيمَانَ حِينَ تَقَعُ الْفِتَنُ بِالشَّامِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, I saw (in a dream) that the pillar of the Book was pulled out from under my pillow. I followed it with my eyes, and behold, it was in the form of a brilliant, radiant light that was taken towards the land of Syria. Know well! When trials and afflictions occur, faith (and its refuge) will be in the land of Syria."
Imam Ahmad narrated this hadith in al-Musnad (6609) and Imam al-Hakim in al-Mustadrak (8589). Imam al-Hakim declared it sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs, and Allamah al-Albani also declared its chain sahih in Takhrij Mishkat al-Masabih (5955).

وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ : خَوْلِيٌّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّكُمْ سَتُجَنَّدُونَ أَجْنَادًا ، جُنْدًا بِالشَّامِ وَجُنْدًا بِالْيَمَنِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ خَوْلِيُّ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ خِرْ لِي ، قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : عَلَيْكَ بِالشَّامِ ، فَمَنْ أَبَى فَلْيَلْحَقْ بِيَمَنِهِ ، وَلْيَسْقِ بِغُدُرِهِ ، فَإِنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى قَدْ تَكَفَّلَ لِي بِالشَّامِ وَأَهْلِهِ .
It is narrated from a man called Khawli that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Soon you will become several armies of fighters: one army will be in Syria and one army in Yemen." Khawli said to him (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah, «khir li»: choose (the best place) for me." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hold fast to Syria. Then whoever is reluctant (to go there), let him join his Yemen and drink from its pools, for Allah Almighty has taken responsibility for me for Syria and its inhabitants (for their protection and care)."

قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مَيْسَرَةَ ، سَمِعْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيِّبِ يَقُولُ : وَجٌّ وَادٍ مُقَدَّسٌ .
قُلْتُ : هُوَ بِفَتْحِ الْوَاوِ وَتَشْدِيدِ الْجِيمِ ، وَهُوَ بِالطَّائِفِ .

It is narrated from Ibrahim bin Maysarah that he said: I heard Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) say: "The valley of Wajj is a sacred valley."
I (Ibn Hajar) say: The correct pronunciation of this word is with a fathah on the waw and a shaddah on the jim, and it is the name of a valley located in the region of Ta'if.
