قَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنِي عَجْلَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : لَمَّا حَضَرَ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ الْوَفَاةُ ، قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا : إِلَى مَنْ تَكِلُنِي ؟ فَقَالَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : اللَّهُمَّ أَبْدِلْ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ خَيْرًا مِنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، فَلَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ خَطَبَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَتْ : إِنِّي كَبِيرَةُ السِّنِّ ، قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَنَا أَكْبَرُ مِنْكِ سِنًّا ، وَالْعِيَالُ عَلَى اللهِ تَعَالَى وَرَسُولِهِ ، وَأَمَّا الْغَيْرَةُ فَسَأَدْعُو اللهَ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - يُذْهِبُهَا ، فَتَزَوَّجَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهَا بِرَحَاءَيْنِ ، وَجَرَّةِ الْمَاءِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the time of death drew near for Sayyiduna Abu Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said (in distress): "To whom are you leaving me?" At this he supplicated: 'Allahumma abdil Umma Salamata khayran min Abi Salamah' (O Allah, give Umm Salamah a better replacement than Abu Salamah). So when he passed away, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent her a proposal of marriage, at which she said (by way of excuse): "I am a woman of advanced age." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am older in age than you; and do not worry about the household and the children, they are the responsibility of Allah Almighty and His Messenger; as for jealousy, I will pray to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, to remove it from you." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married her and sent her (as household goods) two hand-mills and a water jar.

4116 \ 2 - وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا هُدْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، قَالَا : ثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ .. فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ فِي وَفَاتِهِ ، وَأَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ خَطَبَهَا فَرَدَّتْهُ ، ثُمَّ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ فَرَدَّتْهُ ، ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُهَا ، فَقَالَتْ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا : إِنَّ فِيَّ خِلَالًا ثَلَاثًا ، فَسَمِعَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ مَا رَدَّتْ بِهِ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَغَضِبَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَكْثَرَ مِمَّا غَضِبَ لِنَفْسِهِ ، فَأَتَاهَا فَقَالَ لَهَا : أَنْتِ الَّتِي تَرُدِّينَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَ تَرُدِّينَهُ ؟
قَالَتْ : يَا ابْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ، إِنَّ فِيَّ كَذَا وَكَذَا . وَفِي الْحَدِيثِ : فَأَمَّا مَا ذَكَرْتِ مِنَ الْغَيْرَةِ ، فَإِنِّي أَدْعُو اللهَ تَعَالَى أَنْ يُذْهِبَهَا . قَالَ : فَكَانَتْ فِي النِّسَاءِ كَأَنَّهَا لَيْسَتْ مِنْهُنَّ ، لَا تَجِدُ مَا يَجِدْنَ النِّسَاءُ مِنَ الْغَيْرَةِ .
قُلْتُ : أَخْرَجَهُ أَحْمَدُ مِنْ طَرِيقِ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، بِدُونِ هَذِهِ الزِّيَادَةِ .
4116 \ 2 - وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا هُدْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، قَالَا : ثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ .. فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ فِي وَفَاتِهِ ، وَأَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ خَطَبَهَا فَرَدَّتْهُ ، ثُمَّ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ فَرَدَّتْهُ ، ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُهَا ، فَقَالَتْ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا : إِنَّ فِيَّ خِلَالًا ثَلَاثًا ، فَسَمِعَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ مَا رَدَّتْ بِهِ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَغَضِبَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَكْثَرَ مِمَّا غَضِبَ لِنَفْسِهِ ، فَأَتَاهَا فَقَالَ لَهَا : أَنْتِ الَّتِي تَرُدِّينَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَ تَرُدِّينَهُ ؟
قَالَتْ : يَا ابْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ، إِنَّ فِيَّ كَذَا وَكَذَا . وَفِي الْحَدِيثِ : فَأَمَّا مَا ذَكَرْتِ مِنَ الْغَيْرَةِ ، فَإِنِّي أَدْعُو اللهَ تَعَالَى أَنْ يُذْهِبَهَا . قَالَ : فَكَانَتْ فِي النِّسَاءِ كَأَنَّهَا لَيْسَتْ مِنْهُنَّ ، لَا تَجِدُ مَا يَجِدْنَ النِّسَاءُ مِنَ الْغَيْرَةِ .
قُلْتُ : أَخْرَجَهُ أَحْمَدُ مِنْ طَرِيقِ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، بِدُونِ هَذِهِ الزِّيَادَةِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin Abi Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abu Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) came (home). Then the narrator mentioned his death, and that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) sent (Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her)) a proposal of marriage and she declined, then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a proposal and she refused him too. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent her a proposal of marriage, and she said: "There are three traits in me (of such a kind)." When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) heard what she had said in reply to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he became angry for the sake of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) even more than he had for himself. Then he came to her and said: "Are you the one who turns down the proposal of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? On what basis are you replying to him?" She said: "O son of al-Khattab, there are such and such (excuses) in me." And in the hadith it is narrated that (he (peace and blessings be upon him) said): "As for the jealousy you mentioned, I will pray to Allah Almighty to remove it from you." The narrator says: (After this supplication) she was among the women as if she were not one of them; she no longer felt the jealousy that women usually feel.
I (Ibn Hajar) say: Imam Ahmad narrated it through Hammad bin Salamah from Thabit, but this addition is not in it.

وَقَالَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ : حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ عَطِيَّةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : كَانَ الَّذِي تَزَوَّجَ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا - عَلَى شَيْءٍ قِيمَتُهُ عَشَرَةُ دَرَاهِمَ .
4117 \ 2 - وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ الْحَمَّالُ ، ثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ ، بِهِ .

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "The dowry upon which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) married Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) was an item (of goods) whose value was equal to only ten dirhams."
Imam al-Tayalisi narrated this hadith in his Musnad, and Imam Abu Ya'la also recorded it through Harun al-Hammal from the chain of Imam Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi himself.
